Seminar “Education, Religion and Civic Responsibility”, September 28-30, 2012, Srebrno Jezero, Serbia (organized in cooperation with the Konrad-Adenauer Foundation Belgrade).

The seminar was officially opened on September 28, by welcoming speeches of Ms. Jelena Jablanov Maksimović, Konrad Adenauer-Stiftung representative, and Dr. Davor Džalto, President of the Institute.

The working part of the seminar began the following day with presentation by Mr. Žarko Paunović from the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Belgrade. He spoke on “Civic Responsibility in Contemporary Democratic Society.”

Fr. Aleksandar Ninković gave the second presentation on “What religion, education and civil responsibility have in common? A Catholic perspective.” The same topic, but from the perspective of western (Catholic and Protestant) political theology gave Dr. Nikola Knežević. An Orthodox Christian approach to the topic of religion, education and civil responsibility gave Dr. Davor Džalto.

All presentations were followed by discussions in which all conference participants, mostly students and young professionals, took part. The seminar was concluded with a workshop in which participants tried to envision concrete projects that could be realized in their religious or local communities, focused on raising the awareness of civic responsibility and importance of education, showing how religion can help in this process.
